El Premio Internacional de Fotografía Humanitaria Luis Valtueña cumple dieciséis años de vida. En este tiempo, el certamen se ha convertido en un referente de la fotografía humanitaria tanto en España como a nivel internacional y ha recibido más de 8.500 instantáneas de casi 3.000 fotógrafos/as.
Convocado por Médicos del Mundo, el premio trata de fomentar los valores humanitarios y la solidaridad a través de la fotografía y servir, al mismo tiempo, como testimonio y denuncia de la situación en la que se encuentran las poblaciones más desfavorecidas.

El Premio Internacional de Fotografía Humanitaria Luis Valtueña se convoca anualmente en recuerdo de Luis Valtueña, Flors Sirera, Manuel Madrazo y Mercedes Navarro, cooperantes de Médicos del Mundo asesinados en Ruanda en 1997 y Bosnia en 1995 cuando trabajaban en proyectos de acción humanitaria. Luis Valtueña era fotógrafo de profesión y en España trabajaba como reportero en la Agencia Cover, motivo por el cual este premio lleva su nombre.
El primer premio de esta decimosexta edición consiste en una beca de trabajo de 6.000 euros. Este importe servirá para cubrir los gastos necesarios para realizar un reportaje fotográfico que será definido por Médicos del Mundo junto al fotógrafo/a ganador/a.
La beca que obtiene el ganador ha permitido, en ediciones anteriores, la realización de trabajos como el del irlandés Andrew McConnell, quien con su proyecto “La Larga Noche Saharaui” ganó el World Press Photo en la categoría de retratos.
Bases del premio
En el certamen pueden participar fotógrafos/as aficionados/as y profesionales mayores de edad de cualquier nacionalidad. Las fotografías deben abordar la acción humanitaria, la cooperación internacional y/o la exclusión social (vulneración de los derechos humanos, conflictos armados, desastres naturales, poblaciones refugiadas e inmigrantes). También se pueden presentar imágenes que reflejen los esfuerzos solidarios dirigidos a construir un mundo más justo.
Cada participante tiene la posibilidad de presentar hasta diez instantáneas realizadas entre enero de 2010 y octubre de 2012.

Las instantáneas premiadas y seleccionadas conformarán la exposición del XVI Premio Internacional de Fotografía Humanitaria Luis Valtueña que se expondrá durante 2013 en las principales ciudades españolas.The International Prize for Humanitarian Photography Luis Valtueña celebrates sixteen years. The Luis Valtueña Prize is celebrated annually in memory of Luis Valtueña, Flors Sirera, Manuel Madrazo and Mercedes Navarro: they were all aid workers for Doctors of the World who were killed in Rwanda in 1995 while working for humanitarian aid. Luis Valtueña was a professional Spanish photographer and worked as a reporter for Agencia Cover, hence why the prize carries his name.
The first prize of this sixteenth edition is a working grant of 6,000 Euros. This amount will cover the necessary expenses to make a photographic report defined by Doctors of the World together with the winner.
The grant which the winner receives has allowed, in prior editions, the production of works like the ones by Andrew McConnell, Irish photographer who, with his project “The Long Saharawi Night,” won the World Press Photo in the portrait category.
Rule and Terms of Condition
This contest is open to photographers, enthusiasts and professionals legal of age and of any nationality. The photographs have to relate to humanitarian aid, international cooperation or social exclusion (human rights violations, armed conflicts, natural disasters, indigenous or immigrant populations). Photographs that show solidarity attempts to build a better world will also be accepted.
Each participant will have the possibility to submit up to ten (10) snapshots taken between 2011 and 2012.

Bases du Prix
Au concours peuvent participer des photographes amateurs ou professionnels, majeurs et sans distinction de nationalité. Les photographies devront aborder l´action humanitaire, la coopération internationale et/ou l´exclusion sociale (violation des droits de l´homme, conflits armés, désastres naturels, populations réfugiées et immigrants). Il est aussi possible de présenter des images qui reflètent les efforts solidaires dirigés à construire un monde plus juste.
Chaque participant pourra présenter jusqu´dix instantanées réalisées entre janvier 2010 et octobre 2012.
