Running-up 2003

Miguel Fernández Rodríguez

Immigration in the Strait of Gibraltar

Presentation

Tarifa, summer 2003, a time when the flow of migrants increases due to the favourable weather conditions in the dangerous crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar. On this particular day, two boats loaded with about 60 migrants each were caught at close range (too risky for a boat eight metres long).

Many manage to cross and reach land and escape, but there are also countless deaths in the waters of the Strait of Gibraltar. Great genocide and indifference in the face of the largest existing grave. Loud denunciation of the lack of basic means and resources to provide adequate emergency care to the survivors of this dramatic chapter in our collective history.
