On 3 April 2025, the Wonder Photo Shop Barcelona, Fujifilm’s exhibition space located at the emblematic number 1 Gran de Gràcia, was the venue for the inauguration of the 28th edition of the Luis Valtueña International Humanitarian Photography Award, organised annually by Médicos del Mundo Spain to recognise the work of photographers who capture social and humanitarian realities around the world.
The exhibition, made up of four projects divided into 39 finalists, reflects various social problems and human rights violations in different corners of the world. The wall that separates Mexico from the United States, the silent suicide of young women from an indigenous Colombian community fleeing violence, the hidden face of the housing crisis in Lisbon or the starvation of children in Gaza, are the subjects portrayed by the harsh images in this exhibition.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the organisation and the local photographic community. The attendees were able to enjoy the presence of Mário Cruz, finalist of this edition, who made a presentation of his work ROOF, delving into the stories behind the images of this project that he has been working on for 10 years in his hometown; Lisbon, about the housing problem.
The Wonder Photo Shop, renowned for its commitment to photographic culture, offered its 250 square metre Wonder Expo space to host this significant exhibition. This multi-purpose space, inaugurated in 2023, aims to promote photography and the arts in Barcelona, consolidating itself as a meeting point for professionals and amateurs.
The Luis Valtueña Award exhibition will be open to the public until 17 May, offering a unique opportunity to reflect on the realities faced by diverse communities around the world through the lens of humanitarian photography.
