We have extended the exhibition of the 23rd edition of the Luis Valtueña International Award in the National Chalcography of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando (Madrid).

It will reopen to the public from Tuesday 16 June to Sunday 26 July, with a new timetable and applying all the preventive health and safety measures recommended for museums by the respective health authorities.

If you are in Madrid, don’t miss this opportunity to see the work of the winning photographer (Mohsen Kaboli) and the three finalists (Javier Fergo, Daniel Ochoa de Olza and Santi Donaire) of the 2019 competition. The four authors address current issues, exploring social injustice and human rights from their particular approach.

Also shown is an audiovisual montage of La última frontera, the work produced by Juan Medina with the grant he received when he won the previous edition of the award. His project focuses on the transit of several young migrants from Morocco to France, through Spanish territory, which is seen as a place of passage.

As part of the 30th anniversary of Médicos del Mundo, our veteran photographic prize returns to the Calcografía Nacional, where it began its journey more than twenty years ago. On this occasion, and as this space is the custodian of the plates engraved by Goya, exceptional parallelism is incorporated between eight etchings of the Desastres de la guerra and eight photographs by authors honored with the Luis Valtueña Award: Niclas Hammarström, Giulio di Sturco, Davide Monteleone, Yannis Kontos, Davide Monteleone, Fernando Moleres, Xulio Villarino, and Alfons Rodríguez.
