From 5 to 28 June, the Joaquín Roncal Centre of the CAI Foundation will open its doors to host the latest edition of the Luis Valtueña International Humanitarian Photography Award, which this year is marked by a series that impressed the jury and won the award: Siege and Hunger by Gaza photojournalist Mahmoud Issa.

The Award, which takes the form of an annual humanitarian photography exhibition, includes, in addition to the winning project, three finalist series that have been recognised by the jury for their unique approach to highly complex and no less topical issues.

Spanish photojournalist Daniel Ochoa de Olza surprises us with a monumental photographic exhibition, The Gap, which explains a sinister and ridiculous object, the ultimate expression of dehumanisation and social and political selfishness on the border between the United States and Mexico: the wall where many migrants risk their lives to fulfil the American dream.

Colombian photojournalist Santiago Mesa presents the series The Invisible Wound, a work that narrates the silent suicides of young women from a community in Chocó, Colombia, who experience discrimination, poverty and violence in the face of the system’s apathy. Finally, ROOF brings to our eyes the drama of the lives of those who suffer the hidden face of the real estate crisis in Europe’s number one tourist destination: Lisbon.
