The winning series and the three finalists of the 27th Luis Valtueña International Award for Humanitarian Photography, chosen by an international and expert jury from among the 743 candidatures received from 96 countries, can be seen in Zaragoza during the month of June at the Joaquín Roncal Centre, headquarters of the CAI Foundation.
The exhibition is made up of 4 series of 10 photographs each, showing the work of Siegfried Modola, Adra Pallón, Eduardo Soteras and Anna Surinyach, winners and finalists in the most recent edition of this prestigious competition.
Their works take us to the armed conflicts in Myanmar and Ethiopia, to the unaccounted deaths on the migratory routes by sea and the consequences of abandonment and rural exodus in Empty Spain.
After its visit to Zaragoza, the exhibition will continue its tour of different parts of Spain throughout the year.
The Award:
The Luis Valtueña International Award for Humanitarian Photography was first awarded by Médicos del Mundo in 1997. Throughout its 27 editions, it has become one of the most prestigious in its field: documentary photography and photojournalism, fundamental tools for denouncing injustice in the world.
It is a tribute to the aid workers killed in different armed conflicts, natural disasters or in any other humanitarian aid work, as it was set up in memory of four aid workers from Médicos del Mundo who were murdered: Luis Valtueña, aid worker and photographer, Mercedes Navarro, Manuel Madrazo and Flors Sirera.
