Staff photographer of El País newspaper, he currently works as the Head of Photography for El País Semanal, the weekly magazine of the newspaper. He began as a photographer at El Correo newspaper in Bilbao, combining work and his studies in Journalism. Based in Madrid since 1990, he has worked covering all kinds of daily news, interviews, and photo stories for all supplements of the newspaper. His photos have been released in international newspapers and magazines through the syndication department of the newspaper. Gorka Lejarcegi has been awarded the Ortega y Gasset prize for Photojournalism.
