He is an agency photojournalist with more than 35 years in the profession. Morenatti has covered armed conflicts, mainly in the Middle East, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, North Africa and Ukraine for the American news agency The Associated Press, where he currently heads the photography department in Spain and Portugal.
With a master’s degree in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography from the University of the Arts in London, Morenatti has been named the best photojournalist of the year in America on two occasions, in 2009 by Pictures of the Year International and in 2010 by the National Press Photographers Association of the United States. His awards include the 2011 Yonhap International Press Photo Award, Fotopres, the Godó Photojournalism Award, the Ortega y Gasset and the World Press Photo on two occasions. He has recently been awarded the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography in the category of photographic reportage.
