The exhibition hall of the Alh\u00f3ndiga hosts the exhibition of the 27th edition of the Luis Valtue\u00f1a International Humanitarian Photography Award, after its inauguration in Madrid in March where the prizes were awarded to the winners and the exhibition could be visited for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exhibition has begun its journey and can now be visited until 25 April <\/strong>in the rooms of the Alh\u00f3ndiga and will include guided tours and other activities aimed at the younger public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The exhibition includes the works of the winner and the three runners-up, four series of 10 photographs each, which take us to the armed conflicts in Myanmar and Ethiopia, to the unaccounted deaths on the Mediterranean Sea route and to the consequences of the rural exodus for the elderly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Councillor for Culture of Segovia City Council, Juan Carlos Monroy, highlighted the importance of this documentary photography prize, one of the most important in the world, both for the value of the images and the quality of the work presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He also highlighted the value of photography as a tool for denouncing human rights violations and injustice, something which was also emphasised by Mar\u00eda D\u00edez, the coordinator of M\u00e9dicos del Mundo in Castilla y Le\u00f3n, and Nora Mora, the head of the organisation of this International Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Organised annually by M\u00e9dicos del Mundo, the Luis Valtue\u00f1a Award aims to raise awareness of the sensitivity and commitment of photojournalists who, through their work, bring us closer to realities and conflicts that do not always appear in the media, but which deserve to be told.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Luis Valtue\u00f1a Humanitarian Photography Award was first awarded in 1997 and after more than a quarter of a century of history it has become one of the most prestigious in the world, with its own seal of identity to promote photography as an instrument to denounce the injustices of the world so that they are not condemned to oblivion. It is also a tribute to the aid workers killed in different armed conflicts, natural disasters or in any other humanitarian aid work, as it was set up in memory of four M\u00e9dicos del Mundo aid workers who were murdered: Luis Valtue\u00f1a, aid worker and photographer, Mercedes Navarro, Manuel Madrazo and Flors Sirera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n
